Social Skills Groups

APT is offering Social Skills Groups starting next week for all ages!

Interested, but don’t fit into any of these groups? Please call to be on our waiting list. Additional groups will be formed according to demand.

All groups will be facilitated by a licensed occupational therapist, and are as follows:

Preschool Playgroup

A group for our littlest friends, sessions will focus on encouraging a variety of foundational social skills such as simple reciprocal play, sharing, saying hello and goodbye, eye contact, using nice hands and more through developmentally appropriate toys, games, and gross motor activities.

Classes will be facilitated by a licensed occupational therapist.

Suggested ages: 2-5

Suggested diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorder (all levels), Speech Apraxia, Expressive/Receptive Language Disorder and any other diagnoses that would benefit from increased opportunities to interact with peers.

Class size: 3-4

Times/Dates: Tuesdays from 2-3pm 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, and 8/8

Cost: $100 for package, payable in advance. Due to the nature of the group, no refunds will be given for missed visits.

Summer Fun Club

This group is for any school-age child who would like to enrich their summer with a variety of fun activities! Sessions will build upon already established social skills and develop new ones such as playing cooperatively, initiating and sustaining friendships, working in groups, reading facial expressions, identifying emotions, and more. We will address these skills through various activities such as preparing a simple recipe, structured gross motor play, art activities, and more. Classes will be facilitated by a licensed occupational therapist.

Suggested ages: 6-12

Suggested diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorder (all levels), speech disorders/delays, Tourette’s syndrome, and any other diagnoses with social challenge.

TWO CLASSES OFFERED:

  • Class size: 3-5

Times/Dates: Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45pm 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, and 8/8

Cost: $100 for package, payable in advance. Due to the nature of the group, no refunds will be given for missed visits.

  • Class size: 3-5

Times/Dates: Fridays from 1-2pm 7/28, 8/4, and 8/11

Cost: $75 for package, payable in advance. Due to the nature of the group, no refunds will be given for missed visits.

Board Game Club

Come play board games and make friends doing it!

Sessions will focus on learning and playing a modern, challenging board game every week. Through these games, we will build high level social skills including turn-taking and sportsmanship, engaging in age appropriate conversations, interpreting body language and other nonverbal cues, and more. Members will also have the opportunity to practice other valuable skills through these games such as fine and visual motor development, sequencing, cognition, attention, and ability to follow both verbal and written directions.

Classes will be facilitated by a licensed occupational therapist.

Suggested ages: 13-18

Suggested diagnoses: High-functioning Autism/Asperger’s, Tourette’s syndrome, and any person experiencing mild-moderate social challenges

Class size: 4-5

Times/Dates: Tuesdays from 4:45-5:45pm 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, and 8/8

Cost: $100 for package, payable in advance. Due to the nature of the group, no refunds will be given for missed visits.
